Dear Film Lovers,
10 years, what a ride! It’s hard to believe it’s been that long!
I want to thank all our loyal filmgoers who have made the
journey with us.
To those of you who have been with us from the beginning,
joined us somewhere along the way, or are just getting started
in this exciting world of fresh, Independent filmmaking, I can
promise you this will be a Festival to remember.
Many films will be World, North American, U.S. or East Coast
premieres at Stony Brook and this year, once again, we
travel the globe. Through the support and encouragement of
Holland Films, Stony Brook will host five International Premiere
screenings from The Netherlands, and twelve countries will be
represented with premiere screenings from places as far as
Thailand, France, South Africa and New Zealand.
In our tenth season, the Festival is delighted to celebrate the
work of several filmmakers returning to Stony Brook with new
films this year. We wish them luck as they join a select group of
studio pre-release screenings and over twenty-five terrific
Independent features and shorts that will be in competition and
vie for your votes. We hope they catch the eye of a film distributor
and embark on their road to playing our local theatres.
Once again, we have kept the pass for all film screenings at
an incredibly low price of only $45 or roughly $955 less than
most major film festivals, where you can see about the same
amount of films! We’ve also added more parties and events,
and for a nominal additional charge, you can eat, drink and
mingle with our filmmakers, cast and crew of many of the
films playing at the 2005 festival.
From the year’s best new films (most having their regional
premiere at Staller Center), to a party with filmmakers under the stars, to a wine tasting
following the new documentary, Mondovino, the 10th
Anniversary of the Stony Brook Film Festival will truly be a
glorious event. Buy your passes early and join us for
an amazing celebration of the art of film!
