Special Screenings

Independent premieres screened at the Festival prior to their theatrical releases and special screenings of films not in competition are:

Opening Night: The East Coast Premiere of Terry Green’s Heavens Fall. Returning to Stony Brook after his 2002 premiere of Almost Salinas won the coveted Grand Prize, Green delivers a hard-hitting courtroom drama based on the 1931 “Scottsboro Boys” case. The brilliant cast is led by Timothy Hutton, Leelee Sobieski, David Strathairn and Anthony Mackie.
Closing Night: James Burke’s Aurora Borealis is a funny and touching family drama about a young man’s search for his identity. Beautifully written, expertly directed with stunning performances by Donald Sutherland, Joshua Jackson, Juliette Lewis and Louise Fletcher. Aurora Borealis is one of the most honest films to come around in a very long time. Screening courtesy of Regent Releasing.
Blind Dating (formerly titled Blind Guy Driving) The East Coast Premiere of James Keach’s romantic comedy. In the vein of Bend It Like Beckham, Blind Dating is a story about overcoming the cultural boundaries, and in this case physiological differences, that stand in the way of finding true love. Starring Chris Pine (Just My Luck), Anjali Jay, Eddie Kaye Thomas (American Pie) and Jane Seymour. Screening courtesy of Samuel Goldwyn Films.
