Directed by Julian Schnabel. The story of the easy and raffish good times - the endless summer days at the beginning of the Cuban Revolution was adapted by Schnabel from an autobiographical memoir by the poet and novelist Reinaldo Arenas, who was initially a participant in the revolution and then a victim of it. Relentlessly persecuted for being gay and for having his manuscripts smuggled out of the country and published abroad, Arenas was finally allowed to leave Cuba in 1980. A powerful and poetic portrait of one artist’s struggle to survive under Castro’s regime is galvanized by Javier Bardem as the late Cuban writer in a performance of great charm. With Johnny Depp, Andrea Di Stefano and Sean Penn. A Fine Line Features release.
